Holiday fun-bike

Today and yesterday are Danish holidays (or rather Thursday is a holiday and most people then spend a vacation day on Friday for a nice long spring break).

That is why there won’t be any Intelligence Bulletin this week as most people are hiding from me (and I actually wrote this on Wednesday – just to confuse everybody).

A behind the scenes animation timelapse (×12 speed) from sit pose to in game.

This time doing my contribution to the blog I fell in a nasty hole just before the goal line. With a week to go my machine decided to crash and the time for blogging was cut to a minimum.

Even with the strong head wind I decided to try and do another animation timelapse. The last one I did I really liked myself and got a lot of nice feedback. [Strong headwind is good for airplane take-off and landing, Ed.]

Now… exiting and entering airplanes is yet another task that I hadn’t had time for – and as I now have been officially bugged with it as well this is the one I chose.

I promise next time I will try and choose something different than an exit animation ;-)

Animated textures for smoke and fun!

Reto.BombeBo is our in-house special effects ninja! Today he emerged from a nicely rendered cloud of smoke with a blog post about…. Smoke! – Reto.Robotron3000

Today I’ll show you guys how animated particle textures are used for making fake volumetric smoke effects.

When making smoke with simple particles the result is often a little flat looking. To beef up the complexity and give the smoke a volumetric look – animated textures are the way to go.

The First Sound for the Strategy Game

To give you an idea of the process of creating the first sound for the strategy game I have created this short video.

The sound in question is an indication for when one of your assault teams engages the enemy.

  1. I think of this sound as one that needs to grab you attention and inform you that something important is happening. To achieve this I have used a deep impact sound with some metal sound on top.

It’s been some time since I last did a post. I have rambled a lot – I know ;). It’s about animation – so here’s animation for ya ! … in 6 x speed (due to me orbiting the scene a lot when animating – it sure does flicker heavily – so wear a helmet). Basically this little clip shows how an animation goes from first pose to in game in about 4 minutes. enjoy…
