In the upcoming build named Rommel we are introducing a new piece of equipment – The Adjustable (or Monkey) Wrench.
The Wrench is a very versatile tool that can be used to repair vehicles from bicycles over cars and half tracks to tanks.
Notice that silence? You can hear flies buzzing. There are thousands of boots lined up on the landing strip but no movement, not a sound. The atmosphere is heavy with the authoritative presence of the lone character who is just now stepping out of his personal transport. Who commands such obedience and discipline? The General, that’s who!
With the imminent arrival of the aptly-named Rommel build, the time has come to unveil a major change in the strategy portion of Heroes & Generals: namely, that Officers and Generals will now be actual characters, with direct command of their own Assault Teams. This means new ranks will now become available. So how does it work? Read on.
Mountains! Mountains! Mountains! A train station, an inn, and a whole lot more! A new build is rolling on to the servers right now. The main new feature is a lot of updates to the Mountain Town map, some tweaks to the Airfield map a couple of cool new personalizations for bolt-action rifles and SMGs. So together with the last batch, the should be something for (almost) everybody now :-)

After rolling out new tanks, now it is time for a few weapon updates, and a lot of tweaks behind the scenes. Fresh from the front line you are now able to buy and equip captured enemy weapons! Including weapons from none other than the Russians.
The Germans has managed to capture a few weapons from the East and after giving them their new (long) German names they are making their way to the front. After getting wind of this, the Americans immediately pursued their Soviet allies to provide them with weapons as well for field-testing. The German engineers have also begun supplying M24 Frag Sleeve grenades to the front. So these are now available as well. On the same note all grenades have been tweaked and differentiated a bit more, so they now have different strengths and weaknesses.
The weapons rotating below are the following:
- PPSh-41 aka ‘Maschinenpistole 717(r)’
- M24 Frag Sleeve (Germans only) – Slightly shorter throw range, but does more damage as the M24 Handgrenades
- Degtyarev DP-28 aka ‘Maschinengewehr 120(r)’
- RGD-33 aka ‘Handgranate 337(r)’
- TM-35 mines
- PMK-40 mines
This update also introduces the first step in ‘Weapon Personalization’ where you can buy personalized weapons or personalize the weapons you already own. This first iteration introduces the G43 and the Garand semi-auto rifles, with more to follow in the coming weeks.For more details on what’s new continue reading below.
We are just in the process of rolling a number of hotfixes on to the servers that will improve everybody’s gaming experience! All the server and backend guys are currently working as fast as they can to improve server performance, raise the player count and lower waiting & queue times.
The two most visible fixes this time around is a new Idle detection mechanism and a new auto Fighter Squadron Scrambling feature.
The recent Patton build saw the reintroduction of the “Spotting Feature” where you can spot enemies and tell your teammates, and you get an indication of who and what they spot. We saw a LOT of feedback on this, from well thought-out ideas for improvements and suggestions for polish over players being very happy with how much easier it became to deal with spawn campers to other players who, in polite terms, did not agree with the spotting feature coming back.
For those of you who remember this back from alpha, we had a spotting system which we now have decided to get back in and iterate on – the old version worked much like this one, with round blobs above soldiers’ heads, this was turned off when the GUI/HUD was updated.
Over the last couple of weeks the spotting system has gone through a number of iterations, with the help and feedback from the community, and we are now getting ready to roll out the next improved iteration.
With the light tanks & medium tanks presented in previous posts we now get to the heavy guys and the Tank Destroyers. These can, of course, also be personalized like other vehicles and we want to keep adding options for personalization over time.
Today we introduce the last two of the 9 new tanks. Over the coming weeks we will go into each vehicle in more detail, but to start with: Here is a quick overview of the Heavy Tanks and the Tank Destroyers.
