A room packed with ACTION!

What does the Reto office look like? – People

Ever so often people ask “What does the Reto office look like?”
(Splixxen! You just made that up! /Ed.)

We sometimes move around to make communication easier, for the people who needs to work together.
At the moment, one of the rooms is called “The Action Room”, where we have all the guys working on stuff for the action game; Level design, Vehicle design, Action game code, Animations, Stats, QA, etc.

So here’s a small glimpse into the world of Reto’s (messy?) workstations ;-)

Fix your bugs!

With every new build, there’s going to be some new bugs.
– Ancient developer proverb

Some of these will be easy to fix, some will be hard to fix and some are just plain boring to fix.

Hence the other Devs need a little motivation.

You can only ask people to fix something so many times and when cookies don’t speed up the bug fixing…

Reto-Moto has been compromised… by a ninja!

I’ve patiently waited for months under the cover of mediocrity, and have finally succeeded in my mission.

You all know me as Reto.indusninja, and while my name should have already given you (as well as everyone else at Reto-Moto) a hint towards my actual profession – it seems to have raised no suspicion in this workplace. But there is no longer any need for my cover. I am indeed actually a ninja who was originally sent to this god-forsaken cold country to spy on Reto-Moto so we can bring them to their knees.

To accomplish this goal, I have meticulously observed them and their habits. Following the teachings of Sun Tzu, I now “Know thy enemy”! I have even recorded their everyday existence in video form as you all can see below.

Coders at Work – Timelapse from the Coder room showing actual work in progress of the coders at Reto-Moto.

In conclusion, they seem to work long, drink too much beer and like cakes too much. I’m still working on how that information can be used for their demise :(

Another Day at the Office

Getting Ready

[6:19 AM] The alarm clock tells me it is time to get up. I disagree but get out of bed anyway.
[6:50 AM] My wife leaves for work and before I wake up the kids I quickly check my mails.
[6:55 AM] Time to wake up the kids. The young ones should be easy to get out of bed today as they both have activities at school and kindergarten that they look forward to. Their older brother is struggling but manages to get out of bed too
[7:45 AM] Taking the young ones to school and kindergarten.
[8:10 AM] I find a seat on the train and begin working. Yesterday at work I created some sounds for Reto.Colding’s swimming animations that I am not quite pleased with. I need to find some better sounding source material in my sound library. I should be able to do that within the next half-an-hour that the train ride lasts.

Featured Developer Sarah Lund (Reto.Lusa)

Once in a while we feature one of the developers from the team and tell you a bit about who they are and what they are working on. This time it’s none other than the first lady of the production of Heroes & Generals: Project Coordinator, Reto.Lusa.

retolusa

What is your gamertag in Heroes & Generals, and what’s the story behind it?
Reto.Lusa – a combination of the first letters in my surname and the first letters in my first name. This is my first gamertag ever – Not the most inventive one though… Maybe Reto.Hardcoredinator would be better? :)

What is your position at Reto-Moto?
I’m project coordinator, which means that it’s my task to keep everyone informed about new tasks and bugs and do the best to make sure that we make our deadlines. I also do other ad hoc things.

For how long have you been working here?
I started at Reto-Moto February 1st 2012.

What games have you worked on?
This is my first game production ever, but I used to work in advertising and post production, so I’m familiar with some of the terms production-wise.

Which tools do you use for making Heroes & Generals?
Microsoft-Project, Mantis, Post-it, Pen and paper and a lot of talking.

What are your hobbies?
I’m pretty active doing the summer (during the winter I just eat and sleep). I have a nice little bungalow house on the outskirts of Copenhagen with a big garden that needs a lot of work – and I also love bike riding.

What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals and working at Reto-Moto?
I could go on and on how the game is being designed and all the positive things about the game, but I must admit that I don’t know many games so I find it difficult to compare – but I am deeply impressed about H&G! I do know one thing and that is, this game is going to blow your mind.
I also have to mention all my colleagues who create amazing things to the game everyday. Reto-Moto is a great place to work – with a lot of dedicated, funny, nice and intelligent people.
