What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
You mean the awesome free-2-play RTS/FPS game? The game where assault teams are under your command (if you so wish)? Where you can sit patiently in an abandoned ruin and snipe incoming enemies? That game? The one where you can hurl an armor piercing piece of ‘OMG’ at enemy vehicles? Where you can fly planes, rush capture points, fire bazooka’s, silently sneak up and end a foe’s misery with a knife? Listen as the silence grows, just before the madness starts? Hmm – I don’t know…bikes?

Featured Developer Alex Chinchen (Reto.Chinch)

First of all, what is your gamertag in Heroes & Generals, and what’s the story?
My “official” gamertag is Reto.Chinch, although I generally don’t use this in-game – I have a number of different accounts I use depending on what I’m up to… ‘Chinch’ is an abbreviation of my rather unusual surname (and is apparently slang for numerous other things if Urban Dictionary is to be believed…), so it seemed the obvious choice, really.

What is your position at Reto-Moto?
I’m a Community Manager, working alongside Reto.Robotron3000 and Reto.Circinus and the rest of the Reto guys, but am based out of the Square Enix office in sunny, sunny London.

For how long have you been working here?
I’ve been with Square Enix for around 6 years now, but I’m a relatively new recruit to the Heroes & Generals ranks: I only joined the project in September of this year.

What games have you worked on?
I’ve mainly been working on games out of our Japanese studios up until now, with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn being my main focus over the last couple of years, but have also helped out with various bits and pieces on other stuff like Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Hitman: Absolution, as well as some of our mobile games, so a pretty wide-ranging list, really.

Which tools do you use for making Heroes & Generals?
Anything that I can get my hands on! I’m mostly focusing on the game channels like Facebook, YouTube & Twitter, and obviously the forums and the blog (although I’ve not been posting much yet, I’m often lurking there…) I’m also looking at bringing new things into the mix soon, such as Twitch.tv, to make sure we’ll be getting as much cool stuff out to our players in the most interesting ways we possibly can

What are your hobbies?
I’m obviously big into games of all kinds, whether PC, console, board or mobile; I love books and music, and am a big fan of interesting and unusual beers (which we have a rather good selection of here in England).

What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
The fact that everything that happens in the game is driven by the decisions of real people is so cool – it’s such an ambitious concept, and I really do think that what the dev team have managed to achieve so far is pretty incredible.

What’s the best thing about working at Reto-Moto?
It’s very exciting working on a game that is constantly evolving and expanding over time, especially as our players are right there with us on every step of that journey.

What are you working on right now?
I’m mostly working on lots of exciting things behind the scenes for next year that will hopefully help to bring lots of new soldiers to the war!

What are your favorite games of all time?
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Goldeneye (N64 version, of course), WoW, Fallout 3, C&C, Minecraft, Broken Sword, Grim Fandango…I could go on all day if you’d let me…

What are your favorite movies?
Maltese Falcon, Build My Gallows High, Sideways, The Usual Suspects, The Royal Tenenbaums, Pulp Fiction, Synecdoche, New York and pretty much anything Studio Ghibli, to name a few.

For how long have you been working here?
since April 2013

What games have you worked on?
I worked on Microsoft Flight Simulator ages ago, but in general I’m coming from a different branch of the IT business.

Which tools do you use for making Heroes & Generals?
We are using a whole army of tools for QA. Network simulation software and specific test tools help us to identify bugs and problems which will then be reported and handled using our bug-tracking software.

What are your hobbies?
I can’t think of anything specific that I would call “my hobby”, but I like various activities. That begins with reading books, playing board games, chatting with friends etc. and ends at playing challenging computer games.

What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
The combination of RTS and FPS gameplay makes it really unique. I like the idea of fighting for “a higher goal” when playing shooter games.

What’s the best thing about working at Reto-Moto?
Having the opportunity to work on a game that I got to know from playing it in earlier stages feels like helping Santa Claus to prepare your Christmas presents :-)

Testing, reporting, testing again – did I mention testing already?

What are your favorite games of all time?
BF2, Sim City, C&C – and of course: H&G

2001 A Space Odyssey, Gladiator, The Great Dictator, Pi, Southland Tales to name a few

Featured Developer Frédéric Scarfone (Reto.Gargamel)

First of all, what is your gamertag in Heroes & Generals, and what’s the story?
Reto.Gargamel… obviously because I’m an evil necromancer. Or maybe I got inspired by Reto.Draebesmoelf‘s hilarious nickname.

For how long have you been working here?
Almost a year now!

I spend most of my free time producing electronic music.

What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
This game really makes teamwork meaningful. You need the others to win the war. Sometimes I want to high-five my monitor!

What’s the best thing about working at Reto-Moto?
Working with complete nerds. Working in downtown Copenhagen. It’s the most beautiful city in the world — if you’re an evil necromancer. Discussing WWII trivia every single day without people rolling their eyes. The unofficial beard contest.

What are you working on right now?
Turning smurfs into gold. [That's not true, Ed.]

What are your favorite games of all time?
The Legend of Zelda (1986), Metroid (1986), Mega Man 2, Syndicate (1993), Super Metroid, Heroes of Might & Magic III, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, Mass Effect 2, Limbo, Papers Please.

Featured Developer Christoffer Krogslund (Reto.Tobby)

First of all, what is your gamertag in Heroes & Generals, and what’s the story?
Tobby – It’s from an old Tuborg Gold commercial (misspelled – but hey, it happens!). Stuck with me for some reason.

What is your position at Reto-Moto?
Front-end developer. Working on the flash part of the game.

I’m straight out of ‘school’ this is my first commercial game. I have however made several small games during my education, and game jams.

Which tools do you use for making Heroes & Generals?
Flash Builder and the very awesome internal admin tool.

What are your hobbies?
Playing games, from football to computer games to cardboard.

What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
The mixture of two genres. I love that it is possible to help a side of the war by only doing one of the two, and still feel that you are doing yours to win the war.

What’s the best thing about working at Reto-Moto?
The very relaxed atmosphere, everybody has been really welcoming… that is until the first testing session where no quarter was given!

What are you working on right now?
Working on understanding the code already in the system so I can contribute effectively to the team in the near future, and helping with the GUI revamp.

What are your favorite games of all time?
Hm, this is a tough one, the game I’ve spent most time playing is without a doubt EverQuest. It is still the game that has kept my interest for the longest period of time. Other than Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights 2, Half-Life and Bioshock that comes to mind. (and Scorched Earth!)

What is your favorite movies?
Boondock Saints, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction…. basically i like gratuitous violence and people swearing.
