In the upcoming Devyatayev update (named after the Soviet pilot Mikhael Petrovich Devyatayev) we went through and performance optimized the bullet impacts in the action game.
How does that EFFECT me?
Bullets hitting something is an event that happens a LOT in the game, and especially in areas where there is a lot of fighting, such as indoors when capturing a control point. You have probably experienced being in a firefight where there was bullets everywhere but you couldn’t really see what was going on with smoke and sparks flying everywhere. This optimization makes this look better, but also improves framerate!

A while ago our friends at the Yogscast created and published some hilarious videos, which caused our servers to roll over and die due to a massive influx of new players. In the meantime we have optimized the code and added more hardware, but we really need your help to test how much the servers now can handle.
So in collaboration with the SteelSeries community we invite you to come and do your best to crash our servers on:
Tuesday the 24th of June 2014 at 20.00 CEST / 14.00 EDT.
We are just in the process of rolling a number of hotfixes on to the servers that will improve everybody’s gaming experience! All the server and backend guys are currently working as fast as they can to improve server performance, raise the player count and lower waiting & queue times.
The two most visible fixes this time around is a new Idle detection mechanism and a new auto Fighter Squadron Scrambling feature.
New build incoming! We are currently hard at work hammering away at the new armor model getting it into tip-top shape. The ‘Leeb’ build will show the first iteration and it will form a solid base from which we can start expanding the damage models on vehicles to make them more fun to both fight in and against. Hiding behind trees and observing these metal beasts moving about are the new recon models. We have already released a sneak peek of the German and a sneak peek of the new American recon is on its way as well.
Based on ao. a lot of DxDiags detailing performance issues we have started focusing on more specific performance issues and we are working on making the game run better and more stable for everybody, so over the next couple of months a lot of our focus will be on these issues. We do of course have new features planned, but we also want to increase stability, performance, scalability, fix bugs etc. This might not be as exciting as new content, but it will make the game more fun and give us a more stable platform for the continued development of new features.
Also, as we have done a couple of times before Reto.Vashu is gathering questions from you guys in a new Developer Q&A session.

We are continuously trying to improve performance as well as add more content to the maps. These two things often pull in opposite directions as more objects in the game gives more hiding places while also hurting performance. We try to keep ahead of the issues of bad performance by tracking performance over the different builds.

I would just love to see a thick black and grey smoke slowly sweeping throughout the battlefield and to see smoke and dust linger for several seconds after various explosions and impacts – however…
this will destroy the performance and the frame-rate will drop through the floor, making everybody curse at me and scream and yell and shake their fists in my general direction! SO…
