Map updates – Medium French Village – part 1

After managing to sneak a lot of improvements into the town map, I managed to sneak up on Reto.Ratamahat and ask him to talk about the upcoming improvements and tweaks to the Town map. – Reto.Robotron3000

In the upcoming Keating build, we have given the Town map a graphical makeover and made some improvements to the level design. In this post I highlight some of the most important differences, and compare the old with the new. If you’ve been playing the map for a while, this might be a speedy way to find new hiding spots, and develop attack lines and defensive positions!

Fishing for frames.

We are continuously trying to improve performance as well as add more content to the maps. These two things often pull in opposite directions as more objects in the game gives more hiding places while also hurting performance. We try to keep ahead of the issues of bad performance by tracking performance over the different builds.

Intelligence Bulletin Vol 3 * No 25

Jefferson and the accompanying Videolog is online. As you will probably be aware, it is summer here on the Northern hemisphere, so a lot of us are having some time off to go on vacation, frolick in the sun and spend time with family and friends. But fear not, not everything stops. We are gathering feedback and data and hotfixing Jefferson as fast as possible, if you run into issues, please head to the forums, and even if you might not get a reply from a developer immediately, we are reading and following up on all the important threads. As I am up next for some R&R there won’t be an Intelligence Bulletin for the next two weeks, but then I expect to be back with tall tales from the Swedish forests and a lot of information on the next exciting features for the game.

The team here is currently working on four major things: First is hotfixing bugs on the Jefferson build on live, second is helping the next build Keating through it’s Quality Assurance sessions to get it stabilized, third is working on features for the upcoming builds and last, but not least – vacations at various beaches and chilled white wine in the shade.

Beta Videolog 7: “Jefferson” is now online.

The new build ‘Jefferson’ is online with a number of new exciting features (and a lot of bug fixes) and we hope you will all help us welcome new players and community members to the game. Following hard on the videolog from May, we herded Reto.KenSolo and Reto.Colding into the editing booth and they went to work. The new build named Jefferson (after the Canadian Brigadier James Curry Jefferson) is online.

New Features

Play With Friends

First iteration of Play With Friends. You can now join match-making as a group and play with your friends as your own squad on the battlefield. Read more here.

Anti-Grief System

Anti-Grief System contains a lot of data collection on the backend as well as the first iteration of the flag system to report players team killing and team damaging. Read more here.

Cover in vehicles

Holding down the crouch button (default: CTRL) in a tanks and tank destroyers will make your character duck and try to take cover behind whatever is nearby. This protects you somewhat from enemy fire, but also limits you to first person view. You can also see if a vehicle is occupied by looking at the hatches. Open hatch means empty.

Equipment System, Iteration 2

We have gone through and updated the equipment system. You can now decide how much ammunition you want to carry for each weapon you bring along. Read more here.

Improved LOD Models

Some of the game’s older Level-Of-Detail models needed a bit of polish, so the graphics guys went over them with their binary paintbrushes. Read more here.

HUD/UI improvements

The game’s user interface and HUD has gone through another round of polish since Irwin. This is ao. based on a lot of really good feedback from players. Read more here.

Jefferson and Mobile Command

The ‘Jefferson’ build will introduce some fairly large changes to all the rules behind the scenes of battles in the Strategy game, as Reto.indusninja has already described in an earlier post. Some of the changes – like the new skirmish battle implementation – have had some impact on Mobile Command, in that they of course need to be shown in some way.

Jefferson sneak-peek weekend!

We are currently working on getting the Jefferson build ready for the live servers and while we are getting there, we need your help!

We have been hunting some performance related bugs and while we think they are fixed we are not sure, so we have decided to do a quick load-test (and bughunt) over the weekend.

So if you want to check it out and help us iron out the last bugs.
