Rommel Feature: GENERALS!

Ach-TUNG!

Notice that silence? You can hear flies buzzing. There are thousands of boots lined up on the landing strip but no movement, not a sound. The atmosphere is heavy with the authoritative presence of the lone character who is just now stepping out of his personal transport. Who commands such obedience and discipline? The General, that’s who!

With the imminent arrival of the aptly-named Rommel build, the time has come to unveil a major change in the strategy portion of Heroes & Generals: namely, that Officers and Generals will now be actual characters, with direct command of their own Assault Teams. Combat Ribbons: How Do They Work?

A brand new series of combat ribbons was introduced along with the Newgarden build, as part of the character progression tree. Inspired by the service ribbons worn by real-life servicemen, combat ribbons are decorations earned for achievements in combat. They can be leveled up, unlocking new weapons, modifiers and combat badges in the process.

Beta Videolog 10: “Newgarden” is now online.

The new build ‘Newgarden’ is online with a lot of exciting new stuff! We hope you will all help us welcome new players and community members to the game. With Winter Solstice & Christmas upon us we managed to get Reto.KenSolo and Reto.Colding in from the cold and into the editing booth and they went straight to work on a new videolog showing you some of the updates in the Newgarden build. Newgarden is online!

The new build named Newgarden (after the American Major General Paul Newgarden) is live on the servers! And here is a short update explaining the new features we’ve added for you to enjoy!

New Features

Character Progression and new Combat Ribbons & Badges

The biggest new feature in this build is the brand new Character Progression Tree! Now all new heroes start out as infantrymen and as you capture points, kill enemies and gain experience your hero will climb in rank. Whilst moving through these ranks, your hero will be offered the opportunity to branch off and join the armour forces, recon or the air force, as well as unlocking the ability to use more advanced weapons and equipment. New Airfield Map

The old Airfield has been closed for takeoff and landing and a brand new Airfield map is here! It is now a much more fully-fledged and exciting map with multiple attack routes, and will require some tactical thinking when choosing a direction for attack. If you want to know more about the Airfield map read along here: Part 1 & Part 2.

New game interface

We have worked our way through the game and updated the interface and streamlined the look and layout. Mainly the interface is now split into a ‘Heroes’ and a ‘Generals’ section to help you see where to depending on what you want to do. We will continue to work on the interface to make it more accessible, more consistent and easier to use.

New Pz.I & Pz.III textures

On a smaller scale, we have also updated the textures and shaders on the Panzer I and the Panzer III and in the coming builds we will continue to polish vehicles to make sure they look as good as possible. You can see a couple of pictures of the new versions here. And as the commander of the Panzer III was done emptying the crate full of cake he had momentarily placed on top of his turret, he of course removed it, so it wouldn’t block his viewports. ;-)

Improved Low Quality Render

We have also updated the “low quality” render to give a graphical boost to lower-end machines. This will raise the minimum requirements a tiny bit, but more than makes up for it by making the low quality setting look so much better. Read more and see a few example screenshots here.

Gentlemen! I am pleased to announce that very shortly a new character progression tree will be implemented as part of the coming Newgarden build. This is a feature which has been widely requested by our players for a very long time, and one which shall bring more depth to the Heroes & Generals gaming experience. It consists of a completely revised system for character types and ranks, equipment, combat ribbons and badges.
