User Driven Development
When we started this project it was with the intention of creating a game for the gamers as much as for ourselves. The games we have been creating in the past have all been shrouded in secrecy until they were released and therefore always carried a number of things that players did not like but we were unable to change. Because it is the players that in the end buy the game we think they should have greater influence on the development.
Our development model is very similar to the principles of anamorphic web development in combination with a continuous product expansion. We release a very early version of the game to the public and use the feedback to tailor it to the users. This method is radically different from how we have been developing games so far (and quite scary, yes), where content and code only see the public when it is final and have undergone thorough testing. The strength in this method is that we can react to the players and change and correct the game quickly and with much less expense than in a traditional production.
In the beginning we will run a closed alpha/beta program. Not because we do not want you all to play our game but simply because we have to make sure that our server/network system and game-design scales nicely with the amount of users. We will expand the user base (with registered users and an invite system) as we go along and when the game runs smoothly we will open it up to the public.
We encourage users (also those not currently allowed to actually play the game) to participate in discussions in our forum. When you write critique (which is what we are looking for), remember to try and explain your reasons. Constructive criticism will help us build a better game for you.
We will also open up the development and write on this website about the techniques we are using and how we are solving the many different problems that exists in the development of this game.
We hope you will join the community and help us build a great game.
See you on the battlefield!
