Exit Messerschmitt bf109E

A behind the scenes animation timelapse (×12 speed) from sit pose to in game.

This time doing my contribution to the blog I fell in a nasty hole just before the goal line. With a week to go my machine decided to crash and the time for blogging was cut to a minimum.

Even with the strong head wind I decided to try and do another animation timelapse. The last one I did I really liked myself and got a lot of nice feedback. [Strong headwind is good for airplane take-off and landing, Ed.]

Now… exiting and entering airplanes is yet another task that I hadn’t had time for – and as I now have been officially bugged with it as well this is the one I chose.

I promise next time I will try and choose something different than an exit animation ;-)

Cheers – Reto.Colding

[woops typo in the title, sorry! Ed.]

PHEEEEW! – or the sound of 1000 men breathing! The new Irwin build is out on live and we are bug fixing it as fast as we can. [pun intended, Ed.]

We have added Warfunds – so now Assault Teams earn income as well as experience. This income is then spent on securing supplies for your assault team so you can keep on fighting. Infantry and low-level assault teams generally earn more warfunds than they need to keep in supply whereas high-level assault teams earn less than they need.

If you want to resupply your team RIGHT now, you can do that using gold.
The reasoning behind this is that we can keep on letting players play the game and earn warfunds without being forced to pay for it, but if you want to only play with heavy tanks and paratroopers you can of course do that but it might cost you a few gold pieces.

We have also updated the GUI and are gathering a lot of feedback for further tweaks. Reto.Hr.Wille is lurking and gathering feedback so we can keep on improving the way the game looks.

Have a great weekend everybody! :-)

Warfunds: How do they work?

It’s a common question ingame, on the forums and pretty much everywhere: “What on earth are Warfunds?”
In this short article I am going to try and explain what you can use them for, how you earn them and share some strategies for a solid army.

The idea for warfunds is to add a deeper layer to the strategy game as the first iteration of a system of limiting supplies. It should make the strategy part more interesting, rather than just sending your limitless supply into combat. This new build will make it an important decision if you sent your tanks into battle A or into battle B. You could send them to A… but do you really need them there?

We have come to a stage where a lost battle, can actually be a win. If you managed to destroy a lot of tanks. The ‘heroic last stand’ can help your faction greatly.

Irwin in infirmary!

After rolling the new Irwin build out unto the live servers, we unfortunately found a few nasty bugs in the game.

The worst bugs that forced us to wheel Irwin into the infirmary for some quick surgery are:

  • Large number of crashing action games due to miscommunication between action game servers and warserver
  • When Assault Teams are out of resources (if they f.ex. lose a battle) they LOOK like they get deleted from both map and your Assault Team screen. They don’t get deleted, but it looks that way and it is very confusing.

We are working as fast as we can to get the bugs fixed so we can so we can Irwin back to the front!

Irwin is online

The new build named Irwin (after the US General Stafford LeRoy Irwin) is online.

SABOTAGE! A heinous crime has been committed! Nefarious persons unknown have been distributing small bits of broken glass on the road, thus leading to Reto.Robotron3000’s bike getting a flat tire!

[Yeah, yeah your bike had a flat, not THAT interesting for the rest of the world, get back to the real content NOW!, Ed.]

Oops got a bit carried away there, sorry!

Well after a couple of false starts it seems that spring has finally arrived. And so what better time for a hefty round of spring-cleaning?
We have spent most of this week cleaning up old code, checking under the carpets and behind the curtains for bugs, and removing graphical cobwebs,. In between these mad bursts of cleaning we have been polishing features and content for the Irwin build and also more detail-planning on Jefferson features and getting things into manageable chunks of tasks.

Have a great weekend everybody! :-)

New weapon textures

We are constantly working on improving the game, one of the very visible things is when we update the look of weapons and vehicles and this time it was the weapons’ turn for a haircut, shave and manicure in the binary beauty parlor. – Reto.Robotron3000

Spring was apparently only a short visit last week. This week ‘Rain’ and his evil cousins ‘Sleet’ and ‘Snow’ came by for a surprise visit, so there is not much to do except sit inside and work on the game. So we have spent a lot of time this week focusing on fixing bugs and getting stuff fixed for the Irwin build, as well as designing and planning and generally improving our workflow.

Our delegation of graphics dudes managed to both get into France, and get around and collect photos and reference without any serious diplomatic incidents. There might be a single roadside inn or two where Danish gamedevs are no longer welcome for lunch due to their horrid behaviour, but everybody got back in one piece and with a lot of new ideas and ready to take the map building to a new level [Worst pun ever! Ed.]. As you can see from this week’s cover photo they have already started rebuilding and we have been told that most of the damage should be fixed before summer. :-)

If you missed it last week; we are looking for a web programmer to join the team here at HQ, so take a look and feel free to forward the post to friends/relatives or others that might be interested.

Have a great weekend everybody! :-)
