Each week we’ll feature one of the developers from the team and tell you a bit about who they are and what they are working on.
First of all, what is your gamertag in Heroes & Generals?
It’s Reto.KenSolo – you know like Han Solo, only with… you know… like my real… Ehrm…. never mind… 8-)
What is your position at Reto-Moto?
My official title is “PR & Marketing Coordinator” (edit October 2012: I’m now Producer at Reto-Moto) and my job is to handle all contact with the press as well as setting up and executing marketing plans in co-op with our CEO Per (Topo). I will also team up with our Community Manager Jesper (Reto.Robotron3000) to handle the communication with our community in our User Driven Development approach.
For how long have you been working here?
Almost 3 week now, so everything is quite new. I’m still trying to learn the names of everybody in here and last week I finished installing things on my laptop, so I’m all set to go!
What games have you worked on?
Actually not that many compared to a lot of the other guys at Reto-Moto. My background is quite mixed up. Before I started working with games I worked in the music industry as a sound engineer and producer and before that I was a computer networks engineer. But to answer the question – I worked on a game called Interstellar Marines for more than two and a half years as Lead Sound Designer, Producer and PR-dude, and before that on a couple of smaller never released projects.
What are your favorite games of all time?
Well many of my best “game-memories” are actually from the C64 and Amiga days. I think that Defender of the Crown (C64), Eye of the Beholder (Amiga) and Lemmings (Amiga) stand out as the top three games from my childhood. But if I should name more recent games, then I guess Alan Wake, Crysis 2 and Mass Effect would be my pick.
Which tools do you use for making Heroes & Generals?
Well, as I’m not directly tied in to the actual production of the game I mainly use more administrative tools such as WordPress, Google docs and Microsoft Office. I’ll also be using Cyberlink PowerDirector 9 for making video-blogs, tutorial videos, etc.
What are your hobbies?
Besides gaming I enjoy reading comics and watching movies (oh, and I just finished third season of The Wire, which btw is one of the best acted and well written TV-series I’ve ever seen). But when I’m not working at Reto-Moto I spend most of my time with my wife, my two kids and my family and friends. Even though it’s not that easy to find time for it I also like to play role-playing games and board games. My favorite rpg has to be Call of Cthulhu and my favorite board game is Space Hulk.
What are your favorite movies?
Even though it has been a while since I’ve seen them, I think that the original Star Wars (IV-VI) are my all time favorites but Alien and Sin City also sneaks themselves close to the top.
What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
I just love the fact that there’s an overall strategy campaign behind all the FPS missions, so there’s a meaningful connection between the two parts of the game. Quite a few years ago me and some friends played Warhammer Fantasy Battle (tabletop game) and used another Games Workshop strategy game called Mighty Empires as campaign setting, which was really cool and gave purpose to the whole setup – and we all hoped for a computer game to do the same. So as a strategy- and FPS-lover, Heroes & Generals is to me actually an old gamer-dream come true.
What’s the best thing about working at Reto-Moto?
I get to work in a small but efficient team with some of the best, most experienced and friendly developers in the industry on a unique and ambitious game I have always dreamed of making myself.
What are you working on right now?
Right now I’m working on making a PR and Marketing strategy for Heroes & Generals. I’m also interviewing all developers at Reto-Moto – first of all to get to know them better, but also to make a plan for how we can share the great stories of the magic stuff that all developers on this great team delivers each and every day in the creation of Heroes & Generals.
