With tank factories on both sides of the Atlantic running day and night, a lot of new light tanks are making their way unto the field of battle. As we talked about yesterday most of these vehicles will also have the option to be personalized with supplies or anti-tank weapons should you so desire.
Over the coming weeks we will go into a lot more detail with the various vehicles and highlight their specific strengths and weaknesses, but right now we just want to present an overview. So without further stalling, here is an overview of the light tanks. We will of course follow up with medium tanks etc in the coming days.
Enough with all this talk! Show me the tanks! [relax, Ed.]
The American Light Armor Assault Teams are in for a double treat. An entry-level Machine-gun armed M2A2 and a powerful beast in the M24 Chaffee. Here they are together with the well-known M5A1 Stuart.
M2A2 Light Tank
This is the first Light tank the Allied players will meet. The M2A2 is an early American light tank. It is armed with a .50 and a .30 calibre machinegun mounted in two separate turrets. It is fast and dangerous to infantry and lightly armoured vehicles.
The next unlock is the M5A1 Stuart, the “Light Armor Ribbon” unlocks this tank when you reach Rank 5. The American ‘Stuart’ light tank is fast and appearing whereever it was needed earned it the respect of American troops throughout the war. It is armed with a 37mm main cannon and several .30 cal machine guns.
Progressing further along on the “Light Armor Ribbon” Rank 9 unlocks the first MEDIUM tank, but that is not all, if you prefer to stay with light tanks there is still one more awesome toy to grab!
Once you reach rank 11 in the “Light Armor Ribbon” you unlock the M24.
The Chaffee is a late-war American light tank. It is fast and with its lightweight 75mm main gun it packs a serious punch compared to other light tanks. The Chaffee is often used in harassing tactics against heavier tanks.
The German engineers also spent a lot of time tinkering building new tracked terrors. The first one is the well known and much-debated Panzer I. But read on and meet its two new brothers.
Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf. A
The Panzerkampfwagen I is a German light tank. Originally intended only as a training tank, its twin machineguns firing 7.92mm armor piercing bullets proved effective against infantry and lightly armored vehicles.
Panzerkampfwagen II Ausf. C
The next unlock at rank 2 of the Light Armor Ribbon is the Panzer II.
The Panzerkampfwagen II is a fast and maneuverable German light tank. It is armed with a fast-firing 20mm cannon which is extremely effective against infantry and lightly armored vehicles.
Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) Ausf. E
Progressing further along the Light Armor Ribbon, rank 5 unlocks the 38(t). Built on a Czech design this light tank proved more effective early in the war than Panzer I and II. The ‘E’ variant have increased frontal armor. It carries a 37.2mm Czech main cannon.
Further along the progression rank 9 of the Light Armor Ribbon unlocks medium tanks.
Stay tuned for more armored entertainment in the coming days.
