Master your own destiny! Command a nation!

Vehicles: The light tanks.

With tank factories on both sides of the Atlantic running day and night, a lot of new light tanks are making their way unto the field of battle. As we talked about yesterday most of these vehicles will also have the option to be personalized with supplies or anti-tank weapons should you so desire.

Over the coming weeks we will go into a lot more detail with the various vehicles and highlight their specific strengths and weaknesses, but right now we just want to present an overview. So without further stalling, here is an overview of the light tanks. We will of course follow up with medium tanks etc in the coming days.

Enough with all this talk! Show me the tanks! [relax, Ed.]

The American Light Armor Assault Teams are in for a double treat. An entry-level Machine-gun armed M2A2 and a powerful beast in the M24 Chaffee. Here they are together with the well-known M5A1 Stuart.

M2A2 Light Tank

This is the first Light tank the Allied players will meet. The M2A2 is an early American light tank. It is armed with a .50 and a .30 calibre machinegun mounted in two separate turrets. It is fast and dangerous to infantry and lightly armoured vehicles.

M5A1 Stuart

The next unlock is the M5A1 Stuart, the “Light Armor Ribbon” unlocks this tank when you reach Rank 5. The American ‘Stuart’ light tank is fast and appearing whereever it was needed earned it the respect of American troops throughout the war. It is armed with a 37mm main cannon and several .30 cal machine guns.

Progressing further along on the “Light Armor Ribbon” Rank 9 unlocks the first MEDIUM tank, but that is not all, if you prefer to stay with light tanks there is still one more awesome toy to grab!

M24 Chaffee

Once you reach rank 11 in the “Light Armor Ribbon” you unlock the M24.
The Chaffee is a late-war American light tank. It is fast and with its lightweight 75mm main gun it packs a serious punch compared to other light tanks. The Chaffee is often used in harassing tactics against heavier tanks.

The German engineers also spent a lot of time tinkering building new tracked terrors. The first one is the well known and much-debated Panzer I. But read on and meet its two new brothers.

Panzerkampfwagen I Ausf. A

The Panzerkampfwagen I is a German light tank. Originally intended only as a training tank, its twin machineguns firing 7.92mm armor piercing bullets proved effective against infantry and lightly armored vehicles.

Panzerkampfwagen II Ausf. C

The next unlock at rank 2 of the Light Armor Ribbon is the Panzer II.
The Panzerkampfwagen II is a fast and maneuverable German light tank. It is armed with a fast-firing 20mm cannon which is extremely effective against infantry and lightly armored vehicles.

Panzerkampfwagen 38(t) Ausf. E

Progressing further along the Light Armor Ribbon, rank 5 unlocks the 38(t). Built on a Czech design this light tank proved more effective early in the war than Panzer I and II. The ‘E’ variant have increased frontal armor. It carries a 37.2mm Czech main cannon.

Further along the progression rank 9 of the Light Armor Ribbon unlocks medium tanks.

Stay tuned for more armored entertainment in the coming days.

I love it but what about the poor infantry on the battlefield? At some point the boots on the ground are going to need some smoke to cover those large open areas or they will be sitting ducks to those fast vehicles with MG’s. I know you guys are worried about performance impacts but there are so many open areas on the maps (i.e. Airfield) the infantry need smoke and would have used it during WW2. However, that being said Patton looks very promising!

    • FontanFontan05-07-2014

you can’t hide in smoke with a red dorito above your head ;-)

      • MOSKAUMOSKAU05-10-2014

        Nice one Fontan :D

That Chaffee is going to be a tough one with the 75mm cannon.
I think the advantage is still for the allied light tanks, but the advantage is much smaller, and seeing the axis received the Tiger II and the PZIV the axis might balance it out at the heavier class tanks.

Also, I like that the PZII and the 38t unlock earlier than the stuart and the chaffee.
PZI will really be a trainee tank, play with it 2-3 battles and you unlock the PZII.

  4. Sky90EDSky90ED05-06-2014

Chaffee? against 38t? are you serious? another unbalanced shit for the americans!

      unbalanced? I’m afraid not sir…
The 38(t) is unlocked at level 5 while the Chaffee is unlocked at level 11
      = which means
Only the veteran tankers who stuck it out until level 11 with the Stuart will get the Chaffee
(you will mostly see Stuarts and m2a2s … making the Chaffee a rare but fearsome appearance)

All that aside… the builds just keep getting better and better (I’m sitting on the edge of my seat!)
      Good job guys, keep going!

      • deathmachineptdeathmachinept05-07-2014

Do you even play the game????! This is a PvP game you are telling me Vets and experience players will always be stuck with the 38t vs the Chaffee.!!

  8. thrillbirdthrillbird05-06-2014

I hope the AT-crates will be locked to your own team, or you would pretty much be a giant armored suicide machine with a gun.

Would be fun to sneak up on one and steal their dignity though! :D

    • CurstCurst05-07-2014

They are most likely going to be for friendly troops only. Just like supply crates on jeeps already are.

  9. VictoryIsOursVictoryIsOurs05-07-2014

Thanks reto once tiger 2 is here I can personalize it! For now I will stick with pz4 and 38t once it comes out

  10. JarBoboJarBobo05-07-2014

terrible update made the germans harder to fight and the americans weaker it rips me off when i buy something by taking twice as many credits as it needs and its impossible to earn credits now this ruined the game

  11. GregzGregz05-07-2014

I hope in the future there will be heavy tanks.
    Different types of model airplanes.
You make a good view from the cockpit of the plane?
Unfortunately to buy gold credit card many people have no effect. I don’t like credit cards. Can you make other ways to buy gold in the game.

  12. TheNewLagConspiracyTheNewLagConspiracy05-07-2014

Are the Tiger II and Patton(which makes no sense) already in game or are they coming soon?

    • TheNewLagConspiracyTheNewLagConspiracy05-07-2014

Disregard what I said about Patton, Robotron3000 replied and told me Patton was the build, not the tank.
      I’m an idiot.

  13. TheNewLagConspiracyTheNewLagConspiracy05-07-2014

You either took my forum post on the 38(t) seriously or this was already planned, because I mentioned the Ausf. E had armour comparable to the Stuart, and therefore was the best counterpart to it.

    • Reto.indusninjaReto.indusninja05-07-2014

      Maybe we did ;)

      • TheNewLagConspiracyTheNewLagConspiracy05-07-2014

I don’t believe it! I actually influenced the games development (twice, maybe! I made a post about Pershing and you add it two months~ later)!

  14. stalinkillerstalinkiller05-07-2014

Medium and Heavy tanks will remain avaible in game

  15. Nikita1998Nikita199805-07-2014

It is nice, but what about cockpits?

  16. Comical_DeerComical_Deer05-07-2014

AAAHHHHHH!!!! I can’t wait for the updates to come especially since I love being the tanker!!! lol but I still can’t wait for the airborne trooper to be re-released!!!!

  17. deathmachineptdeathmachinept05-07-2014

Crap M24 chaffee vs 38t?! The PZ IIC vs M5A1 stuart ?! M2A2 vs PZ I ?!(this are pre world war 2 tanks useless in combat) -1000000 for historical accuracy and historical balance.

Very disappointed with the light tank setting… Should have been M3 vs 38t/M5A1 vs PZ IIIJ/M24 vs PZIIIM.

But the medium tanks seemed the correct ones if added the Panther.

  18. youaregodyouaregod05-08-2014

Well, i LIKE the m24 but the game is Turning a little bit in arcade mode! Rest of update is cool! Good job

  19. youaregodyouaregod05-08-2014

I see a new weapon for tanker? The bergmann MP 18?!

    • Reto.Robotron3000Reto.Robotron300005-08-2014

It is an MP-34, but the Bergman would also be nice.

  20. JarBoboJarBobo05-10-2014

    ruined the game

What are you waiting for soldier? We need heroes on the battlefield and generals to lead them!
