Welcome to a new section of the Heroes & Generals news blog, the Weapon Files. As the name implies, we will use this series of posts to review the armament available to your soldiers and discuss the characteristics of individual weapons. We will start with a brief introduction about weapon ranges. As is often the case, pictures can explain this concept better than words.
When discussing weapons, the question of range is bound to come up often. There are several things which determine the distance at which a weapon is most effective: precision, rate of fire, muzzle velocity, reload speed and recoil are some of the most important. Every type of weapon presents different strengths and weaknesses in these areas.
The illustration above provides you with an idea of what we mean when we say “close range” or “long range”. Instead of giving numerical values, I chose landmarks of the Town map which can be used as a visual reference. Of course, you can fire a pistol farther than just the length of the police station, but the building is a good representation of the range at which you can rely on this weapon to defend yourself.
There is a reason why hunters prefer the slow bolt-action rifles over their semi-automatic counterparts. There is a reason why a submachine gun is your best ally when storming a building. We will go over all these scenarios as we discuss the different items of the Heroes & Generals arsenal.
Stay tuned for more tomorrow!
