First of all, what is your gamertag in Heroes & Generals?
My gamertag is Reto.KriegDK.
What is your position at Reto-Moto?
I’m hired to find bugs and verify bugfixes, assuring the quality as Quality Assurance tester.
For how long have you been working here?
I’ve been working here since late January 2013.
What games have you worked on?
Heroes & Generals is the first game I’ve worked on professionally, but in my youth I made some very simple pong and snake-like games on C64 and the Amiga. I also built a bunch of maps for Doom II and Duke Nukem 3D on the PC with one of my buddies. However, despite it always having been a dream of mine, I didn’t pursue a professional career working in the games industry until the opportunity to join Reto-Moto came along.
Which tools do you use for making Heroes & Generals?
Spreadsheets, spreadsheets, spreadsheets. There’s often a lot of data to keep track of while testing, which we need to keep track of in a structured manner.
What are your hobbies?
I don’t own any at the moment… oh! you mean hobbies? I thought you said hobbits.. well then, one of my hobbies are playing games. My girlfriend runs her own gaming blog and she gets all kinds of games sent to her all the time, and I abuse that luxury by spending as much time playing many of the more interesting titles as possible.
What’s the best thing about Heroes & Generals?
I love close quarters combat, especially when I’m playing with teammates that are on the same page tactically. The firefights in the area around police station and church on the Town map can be extremely hectic, as well as many of the close quarters encounters around the objective points on the Mountain map.
What’s the best thing about working at Reto-Moto?
I can mention lots of things, but if I have to point out one specific thing, I would have to say the work in itself. I genuinely love trying to break a new feature in every way possible, or look around for bugs in all the nooks and crannies of the flash client and our game engine.
What are you working on right now?
It differs a lot from day to day. Right now I’m busy verifying all the bugfixes, which are constantly flooding my inbox, and I’m done testing the new character progression system, and now I am working on making sure the ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ works exactly as designed.
What are your favorite games of all time?
Oh, there are so many. Too many to mention them all, but here are some that stood out: Donkey Kong (arcade), Scorched Earth, Atomic Bomberman, Rolling Thunder (arcade), Doom II, Warcraft 2, C&C Red Alert, Metal Gear Solid, Half-Life series, Hitman series, Counter-Strike, Tomb Raider series, Battlefield 1942, BF2, GTA series, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Uncharted series, Civilization V, Diablo III and XCOM: Enemy Unknown… to name a few…
What are your favorite movies?
I’m a sucker for a good special effects packed action movie, but I also love watching good documentaries like Fog of War, or anything by Errol Morris really. The Godfather I and II also ranks high on my all time favorite movies.
