Master your own destiny! Command a nation!

Newgarden is online!

The new build named Newgarden (after the American Major General Paul Newgarden) is live on the servers! And here is a short update explaining the new features we’ve added for you to enjoy!

New Features

Character Progression and new Combat Ribbons & Badges

The biggest new feature in this build is the brand new Character Progression Tree! Now all new heroes start out as infantrymen and as you capture points, kill enemies and gain experience your hero will climb in rank. Whilst moving through these ranks, your hero will be offered the opportunity to branch off and join the armour forces, recon or the air force, as well as unlocking the ability to use more advanced weapons and equipment. If you want to know more, you can take a look at our special videolog here and you can take a look at these blog posts: Character Progression Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3.

NB: For specific information on how the conversion of existing characters work take a look here.

New Airfield Map

The old Airfield has been closed for takeoff and landing and a brand new Airfield map is here! It is now a much more fully-fledged and exciting map with multiple attack routes, and will require some tactical thinking when choosing a direction for attack. If you want to know more about the Airfield map read along here: Part 1 & Part 2.

New game interface

We have worked our way through the game and updated the interface and streamlined the look and layout. Mainly the interface is now split into a ‘Heroes’ and a ‘Generals’ section to help you see where to depending on what you want to do. We will continue to work on the interface to make it more accessible, more consistent and easier to use.

New Pz.I & Pz.III textures

On a smaller scale, we have also updated the textures and shaders on the Panzer I and the Panzer III and in the coming builds we will continue to polish vehicles to make sure they look as good as possible. You can see a couple of pictures of the new versions here. And as the commander of the Panzer III was done emptying the crate full of cake he had momentarily placed on top of his turret, he of course removed it, so it wouldn’t block his viewports. ;-)

Improved Low Quality Render

We have also updated the “low quality” render to give a graphical boost to lower-end machines. This will raise the minimum requirements a tiny bit, but more than makes up for it by making the low quality setting look so much better. Read more and see a few example screenshots here.

There is of course much more happening in the build, so continue reading for more details…

Minor stuff

Here is a list of some additional features in the Newgarden build.

  • Map rotation – Maps rotated on the campaign map reflects in the action game
  • New ingame map – easier to use, better (smaller) grid, zoom on own position.
  • New Gunshots stereo Sound
  • Assault Team Priority fixes
  • Prone turn (seemingly small, but a favorite of ours!)

Mobile Command

The Mobile Command app moves along on its own release cycle (when at all possible) so the current version is compatible with the Newgarden build when it goes live. The newest version contains the rotated maps, as well as a few bug fixes on both iOS and Android.

This build brought quite a lot of good features. Of course the amount of bugs also raised, but that is expected after every major change (like the UI now). The new thing I hope the devs now do is to fix all the new bugs to at least Manstein level and to release them as a hotfix before starting to make features for the next build. This way we would not hear people complaining “Newgarden added more bugs than it fixed.”

I must say thank you for the performance boost, good job! I’m sure there will be ppl complaining the same way I did when shadows became mandatory, but playin at 7 fps wasn’t cool at all.

Keep updating the game, i’m currently more on wwiionline, and i would suggest looking into the “map situation” that u got going on right now. OK to instance server, but what about more complex and bigger maps? instead the standard 2 control points, why not 3 or 4 inside bigger cities (not having to control all to win but a part for a period?) with more complex lines? More Bridges or combat focus points (cover and camping points are more than known by now)? oh and more Free tucks xD
Also, and i know it as been suggested earlier, but having artillery controled from generals side beeing a part of the heroes gameplay while making Heroes in one battle uncapable of managing the artillery assigned to said battle, would then oblige Heroes to have to comunicate to the generals what pre-determined (like the quadrants in the Heroes map) areas they should be bombing.
I’m guessing this game isn’t getting players to stick to it, but i’m not suggesting ideas so that old players see something new, but rather to achieve a level of the game that gets players to keep wanting to play it, or in other words, i suggested ideas to change the things that were bothering me xD

I wasn’t expecting a new UI design, what were the short comings that sentenced the old UI to death?

The new UI looks almost pre-alpha like a concept or just were the content will be located. Btw LED monitors use is growing and I have one that bright lights like white really hurts my vision I really liked the darker color theme of the last UI easier for my eyes.

I like the new build; need to get used to some new features. I like the colors as well. Everything runs faster. Keep the good work in upgrading what you started.

    Looks good!

Question. What happened with Bombs Away badge? It’s description how to obtain it looks empty.

BUG in the link between ribbon & badge!

Tactical bomber ribbon level 4 unlocks the Bombs Away badge.

What are you waiting for soldier? We need heroes on the battlefield and generals to lead them!
