Newgarden Feature: Assault Team Priority

In the posts so far we have focused on the action game and the character progression, but the coming Newgarden build also brings changes to the strategy game. Reto.Indusninja has cooked up new algorithms to determine the way assault teams are selected and committed to battle. Here’s how it’s going to work…

In the current build (Manstein), ATs are picked according to representativity, which means in short that if many ATs of a certain type are present, this type more likely to be picked by the game to participate in the FPS battle. This also means that the more powerful (i.e. upgraded) ATs don’t always make it to the battle. This will change in Newgarden, with the introduction of an order of priority for AT assignment.

When ATs are sent to combat, the new algorithm will assign 1 AT per faction, per access point, starting with the ATs which have highest priority on the list below. The game then repeats the process until all 18 spawn slots are filled up for each access point (or until it runs out of ATs to assign). This new approach is meant to reward the more hardcore strategy players who put in a lot of time to upgrade their assault teams and want them to see more action. But don’t worry, ATs that have low priority will still be involved in the fighting!

The order of priority is as follows, from highest to lowest:

  • Mechanized Infantry
  • Heavy Armor
  • Motorized Recon
  • Motorized Anti-Tank Infantry
  • Tank Destroyers
  • Paratroopers
  • Recon
  • Medium Armor
  • Motorized Infantry
  • Anti-Tank Infantry
  • Light Armor
  • Motorized Guard
  • Infantry
  • Guard

What About Planes?

Some of you may have noticed that Fighter Squadrons are not included in this list. This is because planes are treated separately by the new assignment system. In fact, planes are not counted towards the maximum of 18 spawn slots per access point. This means that planes will always be assigned to action games where you send them.

Not sure if I understood it correctly 1 Slot is reserve for highest priority AT’s only or every AT slot will be slave to that priority list?

If it only takes in account the list then the majority of new players who have only one ATs(INF or Guard) will make it harder for them to get into battle(In the campaign map I see more Experience ATs than low level and low experience ATs), the game has too many vets and generals with high level ATs 3months ago when I got my first ATs it was very hard to find battles for me to participated(some inexperience too helped) took me like 1 month to level 1 ATs and get to 3 ATs slots.

I would rather have a picking system similar to this:
    – Reserve Slots( 1 for Armor, 1 for Air, 1 for Para/Guard tree)
    – Representation Slots( the bulk of the slots would find what are the slots that are the most present in the attack and pick them to represent the ration on that access point)
    – Elite Slots (1-2 slots that pick the most experience or top level ATs that haven’t been picked before)

Priority system, that sounds like an old suggestion of mine :D.
Not exactly the same as I presented it, but still

Don’t forget that limited supply is somewhere in pipe-line, once that gets in the amount of units should get smaller and the ratio of regular infantry compared to other types of units will probably increase.

It feels that it’s time for a complete wipeout and a fresh start. The game’s still in beta so everything is and SHOULD BE possible.

I wouldn’t be missing a single leveled up AT, or what’s in the account as long as I get to keep the gold that has been bought with real money and as long as every player gets the same treatment, I really wouldn’t have anything to complain.

About time to get everyone on the same line (even if it would just be for a short while) once again, maybe it would even present an opportunity for some side-committed players to switch side since there’s been accounts that these can’t think of switching the side because of all the high-ranking ATs and stuff (for that matter) they’ve been cultivating all these months.

Time for a fresh start! Say, yea!

      reset sounds legit ..

    • deathmachineptdeathmachinept12-10-2013

No way :( I just started enjoying the campaign map was able to finally unlock 8 ATs half are just level 1 the other one haven’t even level up, It’s so hard to gain experience with ATs especially in a beta.

If the progress to unlock slots and upgrade them was faster and cheaper I would agree but not with the current speed my I care for my ATs as Rommel cared for his Afrika Korps.

When will we see more players on the field? At least 20vs20

  4. PordyPordy12-09-2013

Very hard to lvl up the infs and guards, my suggestions, that every city need 2 slot for guard and one slot for infantry only for defend.

    when will N build gonna…happen?

  6. GerhachtGerhacht12-10-2013

It is good News to see a smarter System to choose ATs used in battle. I only see a Problem with leveling up low Level ATs (esp. for new Generals) since they have the worst Chance 2b picked. For a future Iteration, I would suggest to make 2 different lists for attack and defence.

For attacking side’s stacks the list as published.
For defending side’s stacks just make the highest priority for the non motorized infantry and guards. That is not only more logic, but it leaves defence missions to Level the low Level ATs often owned by new Players.

  7. djopadjopa12-10-2013

“But don’t worry, ATs that have low priority will still be involved in the fighting!”
    what does this exactly mean??

  8. MasterTankerMasterTanker12-10-2013

Please DONT RESET AGAIN!! I dont want to lose my 10 ATs and my rank.

    • AsmodeusAsmodeus12-10-2013

You are part of on-going game development and holding up the evolution with that “I have achieved this and that, you can’t do that to me! QQ”-attitude. Besides no one was talking about rank reset earlier there, but even that would be a good choice to carry out with the new rank progression system that will be introduced.
Makes me wonder why only some players would need to go through ranking up by this new system and not all. Because the new system will fundamentally be so different that everyone should be forced to go through the ranks, no matter old or new player. And we’re talking about basics of game development here. Everyone’s opted in to join early on and need to think that decision throughly like adults: “I did this call myself, I recognize what the consequences doing so can turn out to be.”

  9. SnowDogSnowDog12-10-2013

Well finally a system to get the top ATs into assault missions. Just hoping there is an internal algorithm that also looks for balance between inf and tanks (2:1), f.ex when you attack with 3 medium tanks and plain infantry, without balancing according to the priority you’d get 3 medium tanks in the assault and none of the inf …

  10. Reto.CircinusReto.Circinus12-10-2013

As earlier announced, Newgarden will not bring a hard reset, so you will not have to start over ;)

  11. kaese_felixkaese_felix12-10-2013

This system will still make it impossible to limit anti tank weapons to anti tank at’s.
Then the second question is how the at’s will be choosen cause if they will be choosen after arrival the system is compleately worthless for atackers and if they are choosen at battle start you got the problem that you can’t lock any at so i could perma move in and out.
    What will this system bring:
    1.More heavy tanks in Skirmishes
2.More heavy tanks in already won defenses for wf farming
3.More players upgrading to mech inf and floodding the map like hell.
4.It will be nearby impossible to level up new at’s cause they get in less battles. (at least this counts for axis for shure)

What are you waiting for soldier? We need heroes on the battlefield and generals to lead them!
